Countering Foreign Hostile Propaganda

Countering Foreign Hostile Propaganda
All parties Conference (APC) called by Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif to develop consensus among all political leaders / stakeholders to deal with the scourge of terrorism and improve internal security in the country came as a bolt from blue for some of the Foreign powers who earnestly desired that newly elected government of PM Nawaz Sharif should use military force to eliminate the terrorists.
Hence, they ostracized the resolution passed by APC with its fundamental premise that thousands of precious lives of innocent men, women and children, defense and security personnel have been lost in the war and still Pakistan’s politicians desire to have dialogues with the terrorists.
They are also objecting to the part of resolution mentioning about the illegal and immoral drone attacks and blow-back from actions of NATO/ISAF in Afghanistan.
There have also been colossal damages to social and physical infrastructure and huge consequential financial losses and adverse effects on our economy.
Fortunately, APC brought the Pakistani political leadership on the same page as it envisioned to save the the state of Pakistan.
The aim was to stop the gruesome bloodshed and wrap up violent carnage spread by terrorists who were funded and sponsored by external forces.
Foreigners having vested interests in the region have shown the signs of social blindness and have failed to see things from Pakistani perspective.
Therefore, they have resorted to cynical criticism of APC resolution in this regard Daily Telegraph (10th Sep 13) published an article titled “only in Pakistan Can the Taliban be Described as Stakeholders” by Rob Crilly.
It contains following propaganda contents:
·        World anxiously waited to know Mr Nawaz Sharif’s scheme to deal with the menace of terrorism, maintain security, focus on economy and attract foreign investment in the country. After four months of waiting Nawaz Sharif’s action       on the most crucial aspects came in shape of APC resolution which was observed in the west with deep diemay.
·        The article contends that APC resolution held ISAF/NATO responsible for loss of live including security personnel, innocent civilians (women and children) by labeling WOT and drone strikes as illegal.
·        The APC resolution did not mention Taliban and Al-Qaeda terrorists for causing death and creating chaos in Pakistan.
·        Alleged that Haqqani Network is a proxy of ISI and one of the factions responsible for terrorism in Pakistan.
·        The writer in cynical manner writes that if any one is going to be singled out it is NATO, If there are problems in Pakistan it is because of the actions of West.
·        Disliking the fact that all members of APC have reposed full confidence in efforts of PM and called upon the federal Govt to initiate dialogue with all stakeholders. The author pointed with a question mark if they were the stakeholders in Pakistan. He further commented that “Taliban who are crazy gangsters , kidnappers, assassins of school girls, suicide bombers, have become stakeholders in Pakistan. Condemn NATO and Talk to Taliban – The stakeholders”.
The above mentioned aspects of the article must be countered through own media response and it should be stressed that Pakistan problems can only be resolved by Pakistani leadership. They also have the political will and firm resolve to fight the terrorists. They must protect the interests of Pakistan and shep away all external pressures with courage and tenacity.

The unfortunate incident of Swat (Upper Dir) and loss of senior military officers for which the entire nation expressed its deep condolence   with a firm resolve to bring the perpetrators to justice, is also likely to be exploited by the foreign propagandists with a view t  o score points against the outcome of APC. Such exploitation must also be countered and the possible involvement of foreign hand in Upper Dir incident should also be explored with boldness.
