• Analysts in
Pakistan believe that Pakistani government and military establishment are
working closely to reduce Indian role/influence in Afghanistan. China is supporting Pakistan in this regard.
• During his
visit to Afghanistan, General Raheel of Pakistan Army ensured Pakistan’s
support for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
He expressed Pakistan’s resolve to provide experts to Afghanistan
military institutions for Afghan security training courses.
• He
communicated to Afghanistan that Indian efforts to get a prominent role in
Afghanistan (after withdrawal of Western forces) neither serve the interests of
Afghanistan not Pakistan.
• General
Raheel stressed that terrorists have safe havens in Afghanistan and they launch
attacks on Pakistan forces from Afghan side of border and warned that Pak would
respond by force to any such threat emanating from Afghanistan.
• General
Raheel’s visit coincides with firm stance of Pakistani foreign office regarding
regional situation. Foreign office spokesperson Ms Tasneem Aslam not only
rejected US report accusing Pakistan of sponsoring terrorism but also
communicated to India that preconditions for bilateral talks are unacceptable
to Pakistan.
• She pointed
out the fact that being a land locked country Afghanistan needs Pakistan for
access to international waters and countries like India also need Pakistan
territory for trade with Afghanistan.
• The
permanent representative of Pakistan to UN, Ambassador Masood Khan gave a
message to Afghanistan by asking the UN and the international community to
assist Afghan government so that it can rehabilitate its refugees residing in
Pakistan.
