33 Taliban released so far: FO
Pakistan has decided in principle to release prominent Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Bradar at an appropriate time.
This was confirmed by Foreign Office Spokesperson Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry at his weekly briefing in his Islamabad on Thursday.
He said Islamabad has released thirty three Taliban detainees including seven in recent days with the objective to contribute to Afghan reconciliation process. He said the purpose is to allow these elements to join the mainstream reconciliation process.
He said Pakistan believes that the Afghan reconciliation process will succeed only if all the stakeholders are able to participate in it.
Responding to question‚ the spokesperson said Pakistan will not interfere in the internal matters of Afghanistan and extend all out support and assistance for the success of reconciliation process there. He said we support a political solution that is Afghan owned and Afghan led.
When asked about drone attacks‚ Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said Islamabad has started preparations to raise the issue at the United Nations. In this regard‚ necessary directives have been issued to missions in New York and Geneva.
Rejecting any agreement with the US on the use of drone attacks‚ he said these violate our territorial sovereignty and integrity and are counterproductive against the forces of terrorism and extremism.
He said the international community has also supported Pakistan's stance on drone attacks.
The spokesperson said that Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz will hold an important meeting with Indian external affairs Minister Salman Khurshid in Bishkek today (Friday.(
He said, both the leaders will discuss bilateral issues and proposed meeting of the prime ministers of two countries in New York expected to be held on the sidelines of UN General Assembly session later this month.
Spokesman said, Sartaj and Salman will also discuss issue of tension on Line of Control besides avenues to restore Pak-India dialogue for resolving outstanding issues.
The meeting will be held on the sidelines of Shangahi cooperation organization's meeting which is being held tomorrow. Sartaj Aziz will represent Pakistan in the meeting.
On Syria’s situation, Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said Pakistan’s stance on the issue is accordance to UN principles.
The spokesman said world power must keep patience over the issue and wait for UN investigation report on chemical use in Syria.
He said Pakistan is against use of chemical weapons and disconsolate over deaths in Syria by chemical weapons
