Curfew continues in occupied
Kashmir
Shopian town in Indian held Kashmir
continued to remain under curfew on Wednesday following killing of five persons
by Indian army firing in two separate incidents on September 7 and September
11. Curfew continues in Shopian township on Wednesday as a precautionary
measure," a police spokesman said. Curfew was first clamped in Shopian
district on September 8, following wide-spread clashes after the killing of
four persons in firing of occupier army a day earlier.
The prohibitory orders were lifted on
September 11, but curfew was re-imposed in the town next day following clashes
between the protesters and Indian security forces which led to the killing of
another youth, taking the toll to five. However, official sources said the
restrictions were eased late last evening to allow people to buy essential
commodities as there was no relaxation in curfew since September 12. A
high-level ministerial delegation visited the affected town on Tuesday to take
stock of the situation.
