Kashmiri women's plight
raised at Geneva seminars
Speakers at seminars in Geneva expressed serious concern over the blatant human rights violations including killings and molestation of women by men in uniform in the conflict zones including occupied Kashmir.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Kashmiri leader Ms Shamim Shawl, representing International Muslim Women's Union (IMWU) to the United Nations Human Rights Council addressing the seminar on "Women Defenders in Conflict Zones" said the presence of Indian army in Kashmir had created anger, frustration and fear within the population.
Ms Afoten Butler from Global Education Programme stressed the need to focus on the mental heath and education in conflict zones.
Shagufta Ashraf, a human rights activist, said Kashmiri women also invoked the values of universal human rights. "They are connected in an informal network of parents and relatives who would visit the courts and police stations together.
Others including Prince Micheline Makou Djoma and Sadani Malainine also spoke on the occasion.

Meanwhile, another seminar was organised by OMEAP International, which was besides others addressed by Syed Faiz Naqshbandi, Sardar Assdullah Khan, Miss Maria Shah, and Mr. Smith.
