Geelani calls shutdown on 11 September
Srinagar, Sep 11: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for a complete shutdown in Kashmir and Chenab Valley on Thursday against the killing of another civilian by paramilitary CRPF in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday.
Terming the killing of another civilian as “brutal form of human rights violations by CRPF,” Geelani appealed people including traders, transporters and shopkeepers to observe complete strike against the killing.
“We are still mourning the killing of four civilians when another innocent was brutally killed by the CRPF. We cannot remain mute spectator to massacre of our people. I strongly condemn the killing spree of civilians in Shopian and urge people of Kashmir and Chenab Valley in Jammu to observe complete shutdown on Thursday, September 12,” Geelani said.
Geelani also called for peaceful protests against the Shopian killings after Friday prayers. “We will give fresh programme against the killing spree on Friday,” Geelani said.
Rejecting the police version on the killing of four persons, Geelani said they will issue a white-paper on all five killings in Shopian after collecting relevant details.
According to a statement issued here, Geelani said they would prove with evidences that the police version is a “brazen lie.” “Our report would be submitted to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and many organizations working for human rights. Police version is a fabricated story and there is not even an iota of truth in it.”
Geelani said Hurriyat was seriously investigating the issue and would make the findings public soon. “We are verifying the facts about the fourth person killed in CRPF firing. We will come with all relevant records based on evidences and witnesses,” he said.
Geelani expressed serious concern over fresh arrests and continuous restrictions in Shopian district.
Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association has extended support to the strike call given by Geelani against Shopian killings.
