MALIK CALLS FOR SIT-IN AT LAL CHOWK
ON FRIDAY
Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF)
Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for protest sit-in at Lal Chowk here on Friday
against Shopian killings and alleged harassment of Kashmiris by forces in south
Kashmir.
In a statement, a JKLF spokesman decried “curfew
politics, arrests and unleashing reign of terror throughout south Kashmir.”
“JKLF as a show of solidarity with the martyrs and
oppressed people will organize a protest sit-in at Lal Chowk after Friday
prayers on September 13,” the spokesman said.
“Four innocents were butchered at Gagran by CRPF and even
today another youth Rafiq Ahmad Rather has been martyred at the same place by
the same force. After these killings and massacres, rulers as a matter of
routine unleash a reign of terror against common people, arrest resistance
leaders and put barriers on their movement. All these acts of State terrorism
reveal that Kashmir is ruled by jungle law where no killer is punished or
stopped,” Malik said.
He said after the Shopian massacre, the slain youth were
declared as militants. “But now even police has confirmed that three among the
four killed were innocent Kashmiris. The police version also clears the fact
that Indian forces, to please their criminal instinct, kill any one they wish
as they have no fear of accountability or punishment. To conceal and hide the
truth about the crimes of these forces, rulers immediately declare probes in
the matter. These probes and commissions are only constituted to conceal truth
and safeguard killers,” Malik said.
Malik said that from Markundal, Sumbal to Shopian, many
massacres took place and probes were ordered.
Malik said the sit-in at Lal Chowk will highlight “the
massacres of innocent Kashmiris, killings of innocents, curfew politics, spree
of arrests, reign of terror and other atrocities and human rights violations in
Jammu Kashmir.”
Malik expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family
of Rafiq Ahmad Rather.
Meanwhile, JKLF has strongly condemned the arrest of its
leader Zahoor Ahmad Bhat.
“Zahoor Ahmad Bhat was coming to Srinagar from Trehgam
and he was abducted on road. He remained absconding for many days and it was
only when his temporary residence at Srinagar was raided by SOG, his kith and
kin came to know about his arrest. JKLF condemns the arrest of Zahoor Ahmad
Bhat and appeals to ICRC to safeguard his life and secure his release from
forces’ custody,” the spokesman said. Zahoor Ahmad Bhat is the brother of JKLF
founder Muhammad Maqbool Bhat.
JKLF has also condemned the spree of arrests at Dooru
Shahabad and also expressed condolences on the sad demise of mother of Hurriyat
leader Mukhtar Ahmad Waza.
