Pakistan
greets Modi on India’s Independence Day
NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Nawaz
Sharif on Friday greeted his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on India’s 68th
Independence Day.
Modi had also congratulated Pakistan
on its Independence Day on August 14th. Nawaz Sharif’s message was released in
a statement by the Pakistan High Commission. “Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
greets Prime Minister Modi on India’s Independence Day, wishing prosperity to
the people of India,” read the statement.
A friendly exchange of greetings
between the two premiers follows a strong rebuttal by Pakistan when Modi
accused Pakistan being involved in a ‘proxy war’ against India. Modi’s
accusations were termed as baseless rhetoric by the Foreign Office of Pakistan.
Foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India are scheduled to meet in Islamabad on
August 25.
