LATEST ON PAKISTAN POLICY TOWARDS AFGHANISTAN

•        Analysts in Pakistan believe that Pakistani government and military establishment are working closely to reduce Indian role/influence in Afghanistan.  China is supporting Pakistan in this regard.
•        During his visit to Afghanistan, General Raheel of Pakistan Army ensured Pakistan’s support for peace and stability in Afghanistan.  He expressed Pakistan’s resolve to provide experts to Afghanistan military institutions for Afghan security training courses.
•        He communicated to Afghanistan that Indian efforts to get a prominent role in Afghanistan (after withdrawal of Western forces) neither serve the interests of Afghanistan not Pakistan.
•        General Raheel stressed that terrorists have safe havens in Afghanistan and they launch attacks on Pakistan forces from Afghan side of border and warned that Pak would respond by force to any such threat emanating from Afghanistan.
•        General Raheel’s visit coincides with firm stance of Pakistani foreign office regarding regional situation. Foreign office spokesperson Ms Tasneem Aslam not only rejected US report accusing Pakistan of sponsoring terrorism but also communicated to India that preconditions for bilateral talks are unacceptable to Pakistan.
•        She pointed out the fact that being a land locked country Afghanistan needs Pakistan for access to international waters and countries like India also need Pakistan territory for trade with Afghanistan.
•        The permanent representative of Pakistan to UN, Ambassador Masood Khan gave a message to Afghanistan by asking the UN and the international community to assist Afghan government so that it can rehabilitate its refugees residing in Pakistan.
